We have recently completed construction on an Amphibian and Muskrat fence for the Ministry of Transportation.
The design purpose is to prevent the above-mentioned critters from accessing the ponds within the site enclosures. From our understanding, these ponds contain acidic water, which may be harmful to the animals, and therefore, a solution was required to keep them out.
The chain link mesh is buried 2’ below the surface with about 2’8” above the ground, including the overhang, which is designed to keep the muskrats out. The ¼”x ¼” opening mesh is buried 1’ below the surface with 2’ above ground and is designed to keep the amphibians out. We also designed and constructed custom slide-out gate panels to make the site access amphibious-resistant.
This was a large project with the total cost for the fencing scope between $250,000 and $300,000.
